We will begin our weekly accelerated reading August 18. Students are required to read three nights a week for at least (20) minutes. They are to log in the title, date, and pages read, on their reading log. Parents are to sign the log nightly. These logs will be due each Friday at the beginning of their class. The points requirement for this nine-week term will be (5) points. Accelerated reading will be 10% of the reading grade. Thank you in advance for your help with this!

Language-Students will continue working on their narrative writing from last week. This may be homework if we are unable to finish it in class.
Students will have a Daily Language Review worksheet that will be completed as morning work. They are given 10 minutes at the beginning of each class period to complete this morning work.
Friday (8-22-08) - Daily Language Review Test #2
Reading- We will be working on monitoring reading strategies this week. All work will be completed in class.
5th Period
This week we will be working on the following strategies: Quesioning, drawing conclusions, visualizing, and understanding genre. Any work not completed in class will be homework. Classwork and homework will be checked daily.
7/8 Periods
Reading
This week we will be working on spelling, phonics, long vowel sounds, vocabulary, plot, character, and setting.
Monday - alphabetize spelling words and use each one in a sentence.
Spelling words - accident, tourists, blaze, flooding, basement, carried. These words will also be their vocabulary words for the week. Please go over the meanings of these words with your child.
Tuesday - Timed Reading - Students will bring home a reading passage, please time them for (1) minute and record the results on the reading passage.
Thursday - Study for the spelling test
Friday - Test on spelling words
